Now that my video card drivers are updated, I decided to stop randomly flying around Azeroth and check out the new Goblin starting zone, Kezan. Click on any image to enlarge it.
I admit that I was not really feeling the whole Goblin thing, but after questing and running around for a few hours, I like them a bit more – one of the reasons for this is that you get your hotrod at level 1, and can drive around the island as much as you want after completing the initial quest. The second reason also involves the hotrod – you can mow people down with it. If you don’t hit them right on, they’ll run screaming from you. If you DO manage to hit them, well…let’s just say that it’s satisfying.
The storyline is simple: you want to throw a big party, but you need to take care of a few things first.
- Adjust the attitudes of some defiant trolls working in the mines.
- Kill some tunneling mine worms.
Once you finish with these quests, you are given the “company hotrod” to go and pick up three of your friends and bring them back to the party.
The hotrod has three actions:
- Punch It – 50% speed increase.
- Honk Horn – this is obvious.
- Radio – “There is only one volume setting – ELEVEN!” Turning this on gives you a about 30 seconds of one of many radio stations ranging from polka to gothic.
There is a pretty decent sized highway running around the island, but it seems a bit pointless as you can go careening off of the road whenever you feel like it. But still, it’s a cool little thing to see and play around on. Also, you get to keep the keys after you finish the quest! I’m assuming that you’ll only get to keep the keys as long as you’re in the starting zone, but it’s a pretty nice little feature.
After you pick up your friends, you get some side quests to go help out the “Footboom” team, and in typical goblin style, go beat down some people who owe another person money. The Footboom quest chain has you picking up pieces for the team (who are reavers),taking control of the only team player left and scoring the final goal.
After you kick the ball through the goal posts, the ground begins to shake and Deathwing soars over the field with words of doom for all.
Deathwing flies off, and it’s back to questing as usual. Your next quest sends you to the bank…
Then it’s off to pick up a hip new outfit, cool shades, and bling for the party.
Once I finished these last few quests, I couldn’t find anything else to pick up so I’m assuming that this zone is still very much a work in progress. Despite myself, I had fun and it was nice to see that Blizzard hasn’t lost its sense of humour.
